Dear Alwin, Jiayi and Keshan,
These are tasks we have accomplished today:
1. NSW Math
2. Science: Revise through the topic with the powerpoint slides and discussion in class. The handouts will be given to you.
3. Science: Taking down of Science notes in Science Journaling Exercise Book (A4 size)
Heat
•Heat makes things hot.
•The Sun is the main source of heat and light.
•The temperature of an object is a measurement of its degree of hotness or coldness.
•A thermometer is an instrument for measuring temperature.Temperature is measured in degrees Celsius (oC).
•A gain or loss of heat causes a change in temperature.
•Heat travels from an object of higher temperature to an object of lower temperature until both are of the same temperature.
•Some materials conduct heat better than others.Materials that allow heat to flow through them quickly are called conductors of heat.Poor conductors of heat are known as insulators.
•Matter expands on heating and contracts on cooling.
Experiment on Contraction of a slack wire:
Cables are hung slackto ensure that they do not snap. Why?
It is to allow for contraction on cold days.
Read textbook for more information.
4. English Spelling.
Regards,
Mrs Teo

Ladybird,bee
Housefly
Hi all, have you ever wonder if ladybird is an insect?
Ladybirds
Description
Ladybirds are small beetles. They are sometimes called ladybugs, or ladybeetles. The are round shaped like a circle. Ladybirds are usually red with black spots but some are orange with black spots. They have three body parts, the head, abdomen and thorax. It is hard to see all of the body parts because the wings cover them. The outer part of the wings have covers that look like they are made of plastic. They have two tiny antennae. Like other insects, they have six legs. Ladybird legs are very small.
Diet (What They Eat)
Ladybirds are carnivorous. This means they eat other animals. Ladybirds eat small bugs called aphids. They will also eat lice and other small insects.
HabitatTrees, bushes, flower gardens, houses and grassy fields are all good habitats for the ladybird to live in. Ladybirds will live almost anywhere there are insects for them to eat.
Predators (Enemies)Small animals can get inside a ladybird and kill it. They are called Parasites. Birds will try to eat ladybirds but they taste very bad and the bird will usually spit them out. People can kill ladybirds by using insect spray in the garden.
Life cycles
Ladybirds start off as eggs sitting on a leaf. 2-5 days later they hatch into larva. The larva looks like a little caterpillar or grub. The larva is ready to start eating insects. After about three weeks as a larva they turn into a pupa. When the pupa opens up, it becomes the adult ladybird that most people recognise.
Interesting facts
There are over 5,000 types of ladybugs.Ladybirds use a stinky yellow liquid to scare off predators. The pretty bright colours are used to scare enemies away. Farmers like ladybirds because they eat the insects that are bad for the farmers crops. They are a natural way to control other insects. The male ladybird is smaller than the female.

English - Prefer and Rather
You can use "prefer to (do)" or "prefer -ing" to say what you prefer in general:
• I don't like cities. I prefer to live in the country OR I prefer livingin the country.
Study the differences in structure after prefer. We say:
I prefer something to something else.
I prefer to do something rather than (do) something else.
I prefer doing something to doing something else.
• I prefer this coat to the coat you were wearing yesterday.
• I prefer driving to traveling by train.but
• I prefer to drive rather than travel by train.
• Ann prefers to live in the country rather than (live) in a city.
Would prefer (I'd prefer...)
We use "would prefer" to say what somebody wants in a particular situation (not in general):
• "Would you prefer tea or coffee" "Coffee, please."
We say "would prefer to do" (not "doing"):
• "Shall we go by train?" "Well, I'd prefer to go by car. (not "I'd prefer going")
• I'd prefer to stay at home tonight rather than go to the cinema.
Would rather (I'd rather...)
Would rather (do) = would prefer (to do). After would rather we use the infinitive without to.
Compare:
• "Shall we go by train?"
"I'd prefer to go by car."
"I'd rather go by car. (not to go)
• "Would you rather have tea or coffee" "Coffee, please."
The negative is "I'd rather not (do something)":
• I'm tired. I'd rather not go out this evening, if you don't mind.
• "Do you want to go out this evening" "I'd rather not."
Study the structure after would rather:
I'd rather do something than (do) something else.
• I'd rather stay at home tonight than go to the cinema.
I'd rather you did something
When you want somebody to do something, you can say "I'd rather you did something":
• "Shall I stay here?" "I'd rather you came with us.
"• "Shall I tell them the news?" "No. I'd rather they didn't know.
"• "Shall I tell them or would you rather they didn't know?"
In this structure we use the past (came, did etc.), but the meaning is present or future, not past.Compare:
• I'd rather cook the dinner now.
but
• I'd rather you cooked the dinner now. (not "I'd rather you cook")
The negative is "I'd rather you didn't..."
:• I'd rather you didn't tell anyone what I said.
• "Do you mind if I smoke?" "I'd rather you didn't."

Journal of myself as a butterfly
I am a caterpillar that has just hatched from an egg.
As I grow bigger, I eat leaves most of the time and moult 5 to 6 times.
One day, I attach myself upside down to a twig or branch.
A hard case starts to cover my whole body and I become pupa.
As a pupa, I look still and lifeless.
After some time, the hard case breaks open.
I emerge as a beautiful butterfly.
